Cameras: 2025

Today, I sent in my Canon 6D to be traded-in. I was also looking for our Canon 5D mark 3 but we haven't been able to find it around the house. It has gone missing and we haven't seen it in a few weeks.

Kristen and I decided to simplify our camera setups. We used to have a Nikon D5100 which I loved and I got some great shots with that. When I got the 5D Mark 3 for Kristen almost 10 years ago, it was a huge upgrade but we still split our camera usage. I gave the Nikon to my brother right around the time I decided to get the 6D. In hindsight, this was a bad idea. I shouldn't have bought another camera that was so similar to the 5D but inferior in most aspects. Getting rid of the Nikon was a great idea, it was easier to work with the same lenses on Canon.

Eventually, Kristen wanted to try a new camera so we bought the Sony A7r III, which has been a great camera but it's bulky and overpowered in most cases. I love using it but I'm not an expert with it like I was with the Nikon so I feel like there's a lot for me to learn.

The next camera that Kristen is eyeing at getting is one of the Fujifilms, either the X100vi or X-E5. They're both similar cameras except one has a fixed lense (X100vi) and the other doesn't.

So here's what's the near-future setup:

Keep: Sony A7r III and one of the Fujifilms

Getting rid of: all Canons and most Canon lenses, except the 50mm ƒ1.4mm which I love to use for portraits. We've gotten rid of the Canon 40mm, Canon 85mm ƒ1.8, and Canon 20mm ƒ2.8.
