The Kaua'i ō'ō bird

this post will need to be updated soon

Now extinct, the Kaua’i o’o bird was from the islands of Hawai’i specifically Kaua’i. I recently learned about it when someone posted an audio clip of the last known bird’s call. The call was recorded by the ornithologist David Boynton in 1987. It’s a tragic thing to listen to and I wanted to post it here to remember just how quickly life can disappear, these birds were around for millions of years.

Kaua’i ō’ō bird’s last call

In this call, a male bird is responding to the female’s call but since it’s a recording he doesn’t hear anything back so he just gives up.
